Learn these statistics before you become oneConnecticut law enforcement stops over 3,000 people per month to check for drunk drivers. Think that’s scary? Check out these numbers:

  • Over 12,257 people were arrested for DUI in 2008
  • In 2008, there were 112 alcohol related fatalities involving a driver or motorcycle rider with a BAC at .08 or higher
  • The average BAC of drivers tested in 2008 was 0.164 
  • 78% of the people arrested for DUI in 2008 were male
  • 21-34 year old males accounted for the greatest number of DUI arrests
  • In 2008, there were 2,976 crashes involving at-fault drivers who were intoxicated on our Connecticut roadways

During the course of one weekend in  April 2010, the Connecticut State Police conducted 9 sobriety checkpoints in area of the UCONN campus.  This additional enforcement was established specifically for UCONN Spring Weekend. This project resulted in 3 DUI arrests, 2 infractions for possession of alcohol by a minor, 26 safety belt violations, 3 criminal arrests for possession of marijuana and 227 other motor vehicle violations.
